How To Connect With Your Chakras & Koshas

Anyone who has attended any of my classes, workshops or retreat days will have heard me speak about the Chakras (energy centres) or the Koshas (layers of our being), I have been fascinated by the inward journey that unfolds as I began to connect with these deeper layers of my being, and today I want to support you in the inward journey.

Once you know how to connect with these deep parts of your being you can begin to see VERY clearly when certain chakras or koshas are out of balance.  I have recorded a Restorative Yoga Video for you this week, as they first step of connection is relaxation- so I hope you enjoy it.

The 7 main chakras are based along the spine, from the base to the crown of the head.

  • Muladhara (root) all about our sense of groundedness & how secure we feel in this world
  • Swadhisthana(sacral)- realationships, attachements, desired, sexuality, emotions
  • Manipura (solar Plexus)- will power, motivation
  • Anahata (heart)- Love, Joy, Compassion
  • Vishuddha (throat)- ability to communicate clearly
  • Ajna (third eye)- forsight, clarity and intuition
  • Sahasrara (crown)- connection with your highest self

The 5 koshas or layers of our being are often described like the layers of an onion, when we peel them back we can experience the deeper aspects of our being.

  • Annamaya kosha- physical layer
  • Pranamaya kosha- energetic layer
  • Manomaya kosha- emotional & thought layer
  • Vijnanamaya koasha- sub concious & wisdom layer
  • Anandamaya kosha- bliss layer

When we understand the interactions between the koshas and the chakras we can begin to implement changes to bring ourselves back into a deeper space of harmony.

If you would like to work deeper with these layers why not come join our Relax, Restore & Renew Urban Retreat Day on the 30th of December.

Singing Bowls- An Introduction

So many people have contact me over the last week to ask me about the amazing singing bowls, so I've recorded this video for you to begin to introduce you to some of my amazing babies.

In this video there are 2 types of bowls- crystal & tibetan bowls.

The bowls work with the chakras and auric field enabling us to come back into balance.

When singing the bowls on the body their resonance and vibration absorbs inwards, massaging each cell, and every layer of our being.

Working with sound healing is both a powerful and profound tool to support both you, your family, and your environment in coming back into balance.

I use the singing bowls in my Sound Baths & 1-1 Sound Healing Sessions.

Bookings for the next sound baths can be completed HERE

New Moon- Connect - Align - Rise

Moon-Connect-Remember-Rise.png

You might be thinking what's the moon got to do me me- my response- EVERYTHING!! The moon has a huge pull on the tides and with the amount of water in our bodies it has a pull on us too- physically, emotionally and energetically.

This week we are heading into the dark moon and then the new moon on Thursday.  It's a time of sowing seedlings to allow them to come into their wholeness.  Might sound pretty WOO right? Well what if I told you that through connecting with the moon energy you could introduce a softness into your life, that does not require you to push to burn out to make your dreams a reality, would you be interested??

Thought so...here is a little video I recorded last year with the moon sequence- which is a great accompaniment to the New & Full Moons (best to start at 36 seconds).

So if your ready to connect with an amazing tribe of like-minded people who are ready to live from a space of alignment and flow to transform their lives, then why not consider our new Moon Meditation & Group Sound Healing Class which will be starting on Wednesday the 18th of October. The Art Of Self Care

Having returned from teaching at an amazing Goddess Retreat in the UK over the weekend I have had one HUGE take away-

"DO YOU LOVE YOURSELF ENOUGH TO LET SOMEONE ELSE DOWN?"

Might sound selfish, indulgent or right up your road?

When we look at our life as a pot of energy, EVERYTHING we choose to do either fills or empties some of our precious life force from that pot- lifting us or depleting us. The secret is finding the balance of caring for ourselves and the people who we choose to share our life with.

So for the next 21 days I'm taking Self Care on as my spiritual practice- getting CHOOSY with how I want to spend my life force. Letting go of the guilt, should-ing and people pleasing.

This was a practice that I had become quite the expert in as I journeyed through ten years of chronic illness.  But as my body healed I could do more, like all those things that I was restricted from ploughing my energy into. Yet now I'm recognising the need to priorities my self care  again- to take a minimum of 5 minutes each day for me, with me, to remember those practices that make me feel whole.

If you'd like to join me on this journey of self care just pop over to our Facebook Group- I will share inspiration, tools & techniques that I will be using to amp up my own self care, to listen a little deeper and connect within, plus it's totally FREE- my gift to you.

Using Autumn Equinox (Friday September 22nd) as a starting point to bless us with balance we will support each other to grow into our wholeness, to share fun and easy ways in which we can care for our head, health and heart.

The Winding Path Of Spirituality

For those of you who have taken the vow to walk the path of spirituality. To those who refuse to live in a state of unhappiness. To those who choose to peel back the layers and unveil your soul, you'll know this one very well.

Spiritual Growth.png

For those of you new to this path, know we are here for you, to walk with you as the road curves.

When I first set foot on this path many years ago, I was in a complete state of rebellion- as in it was the only option left, so I pushed harder to make a life that was not working, work- and guess what it STILL didn't- no matter how hard I tried.

Then came a thought that maybe there was a different way- cue the arrival of seedlings...getting curious...planting more seeds....taking care of them- and voila here I am.

Continuously observing the garden that is my life- sitting in it, adding to it, removing from it, resting in it- recognising that through growth nothing can stay the same- softening the need to control- allowing the garden to lead the way.

Our life is what we make it, the natural cycles within a garden will reflect this, and as growing living beings we too will change.

Sow, water, prune and nurture wisely.

Deep Inner Peace

Deep Inner Peace

As many of you know I am a HUGE fan of the power of our breath, and not just for keeping us alive!!

When we learn to harness our breath we can experience deep inner peace, and at this time of year I'm guessing deep inner peace might just be on the desired menu.

So find a quiet space and take a few minutes to watch this alternative nostril breathing technique.  And if you simply don't have time, I suggest you need it even more.

Taking Your Practice Off The Mat & Into Life.

Taking Your Practice Off The Mat & Into Life.

At this time of year life can get a little hectic for most people, wrapping up loose ends in work, nights out,  and dare I say the shopping word.

Often we feel pretty blissed out and Zen like when we are on our mat or meditation pillow, but how often do you actively take your practice off the mat and into life?

Here are some really SIMPLE tips to support you to live from that deep place of inner zen.

MY 3 FAVOURITE DAILY PRACTICES

MY 3 FAVOURITE DAILY PRACTICES

For me having practices to complete on a daily bases was in the past a hassle. I would do them, and feel AMAZING, but the commitment to doing them daily was a drudge. I liked the daily spontaneity, but I didn’t like the tendencies I would veer toward on the non-practice days of unbalance, ungrounded-ness and disconnection. So I recognized I needed daily practices but I resisted for quite some time, filling my own head with stories of busyness, that I didn’t ‘need’ my practice today, the stories went on and on, until eventually I consciously choose to be my best self.

My daily practice is something that helps me to be my best self, to shine my light and to live from that deeper space of love, to be love and give love.

So my daily practices happen throughout the day, often at different times of the day and in different sequences, they are simply time with Laura, but go like this- SIT, MOVE, EAT.

1. SIT- Sitting with myself in meditation, lighting my candle and moving into a space of stillness, chanting mantras with my harmonium or on my mala, each brings me to this deep place of stillness and connection. Where I can simply sit in myself, with myself, as myself.

2. MOVE- Every day I commit to doing a yogic sequence called the Prana Kriyas. They are simple, and I can do them, in fact EVERYONE can do them. This sequence works with the energetic layer of my being helping to create a deeper sense of harmony as they work as a cleanse, and let’s face it who doesn’t want squeaky clean energy?? This is my daily commitment, although usually it spans far beyond just the praana kriyas, often to more yoga, a walk in nature, or on busy paperwork days an hourly reminder on my phone to stretch and move.

3. EAT- Eating nourishing food, helps me to love and honor me (I have an 80 / 20 rule, so yes I still eat chocolate). This process usually involves me tuning in to what my body requires and cooking a feast to support it. I love to cook and cooking is a creative time for me, there is rarely a recipe in sight let alone a weighing scales yet I can open the fridge and create a feast in no time. I enjoy the process of cooking, of taking the time to cook, of infusing my food with this joy and the mindful moment I sit with my meal before eating. Reflecting on how grateful I am for the food and knowledge I have learned.

I believe fully in the power of having a daily routine, of choosing to support and nourish me, so that I can in turn support and nurture others.

I would encourage everyone to add the things that nourish you to your daily routine, start with one thing, and once you feel it has been integrated add another, keep going until you feel full up, and then go and share this nourishment with the people in your life.

Creating Lasting Change

Creating change can be challenging, but making changes stick can be a whole other ball game. So unless your Hermione Grainger and have a magical wand to create your desires changes commitment and persistence will be on the list. So remember.....

"You Only Fail When You Give Up"

I have put together a short few tips to support you enabling your changes to stick, because lets face it who wants to FAIL? Yup didn't think so!!

  • Tip 1.

Discover your WHY. Get really clear on why you are making the change, and what will be the results of the effort you make in implementing this change.  It might be you will spend less time on facebook, and more time snuggled up with a book, you clear the clutter to in-still a felling of calmness when you sit down to relax, or you quit sugar to support your digestive system.  Whatever your change get really clear on your why, and then write it down

  • Tip 2

Reminders are key- out of sight out of mind- sound familiar?? Place your written WHY somewhere you will see it several times a day. Place a picture on your phone if you feel this will support you and set your alarm as an added reminder. These reminders will then become your new routine to support your changes.

  • Tip 3

Find an accountability partner to help keep you on track.  If you need a little encouragement come and join our supportive Love Your Life Online Community we are going to be starting some weekly accountability pairings, so if you need a little nudge (and by that I mean Bum Kicking) this might just be the place for you!!

  • Tip 4

Avoid puppy-itis. Focus your time and energy, and make just one change at a time, once you have mastered this start on the next one,

  • Tip 5

Having FUN makes life and lasting change just a little easier. I don't want to have FUN said no person ever!!

When Dreams Come True

It’s 3 am and I’m writing from beautiful Bali, the hum of my air conditioning, the stillness all around, the joy within- what a dream come true it is to be here.

About 12 years ago I fell in love with Bali, an island which I had never experienced yet had a love affair with, Bali had captured my heart.  My guide book sat on my book shelf, often hidden but never forgotten about, a yearning, a knowing and then came Eat, Pray, Love!!

So for 12 years I dreamed, and felt the energetic pull towards this island.  12 years of waiting, dreaming, putting it on my vision board, wondering if it would ever happen and then yesterday it finally did, I met Bali.

I sat by the sea this morning, hiding in the tiny patch of shade under a tree, the sand cool, the hustle of people all around, yet everything faded into the background, the Goosebumps swelled, the tears came- this was what I had been waiting for.  My heart had been reunited with it’s lover- the connection so strong, the energy so pure.

Many people have and will continue to question my sanity, especially those who know how my body re-acts to travelling especially long haul, people have asked could I not go somewhere closer to home but my answer was a clear resounding NO, the 15 hours of flights, the stop over, the transfers were all worth it.

Dreams are not for substituting- they are for LIVING.

I strongly believe that if you can dig deep enough beyond all the conditioning and societal expectations you will uncover your very own Bali.

All my heart people will get this straight off, that feeling that you can’t describe in any logical way, that knowing and that unexplainable yet very clear why.  Living from this place deep within the heart is a joy, a privilege, a blessing and a challenge all mixed together.

Heart space living requires you to look fear in the eyes, to dance with it and master it, to befriend it, so that you can move into an expansive freedom, far beyond any humanistic experience that many of us have been thought to believe in.

Over the last 12 years it has not always been possible for me to live in this way or take this trip. Often making it down the stairs in my house was long-haul travel, and I can giggle at this comparison now, but for years this was my reality, health was the bridge I was crossing.  And at times it felt like that bridge broke, I was free falling and terrified, there was no heart space living there was simply surviving.

Over the last few months I have  been busy working with my own coaches, cos lets face it- none of us are an island (except my dear Bali) and together with their support I unleashed operation freedom- as it was named.  I sold my Montessori school, to move fully in to the work which I love, the work that doesn’t feel like work.  And that my dearest friends is freedom, sharing your heart and opening to the expansiveness of life, to feeling the fear and having the courage and compassion to move through it, and ultimately to follow your heart.

So I encourage you to look within and explore, to dig just a little deeper, to sit with the discomfort and reconnect with your beautiful heart- the true centre of your being, rediscover those hidden dreams, and start moving toward making them your reality.

With love and HIGH vibes from Bali,

Rewired Book Tour- The Art Of Loving Yourself Unconditionally.

I am honoured to be part of the ReWired Blog Tour- 17 bloggers from around our precious globe spilling the beans on self-love, healing body and mind and celebrating LIFE.

Want more details so you don’t miss out on the juicies- Sign up here.

Loving ourselves can be pretty easy at times, especially when life is going good, when we are not feeling challenged it’s easier to stay in that space of love for others and for ourselves, but when things get bumpy how much love and compassion do you show to yourself?

Many of us have grown up, especially in Ireland always putting everyone else first, with the concept of loving oneself being tightly knit to selfishness, so loving yourself can be a heck of a stretch for most, with feelings of shame and guilt arising for actually putting yourself first.  But what if for just a moment you could start to imagine what it would be like to love the most important person in your life, unconditionally, warts and all.  What if you could LOVE YOU, and I don’t just mean like, I mean love!

My journey has thought me this lesson, and I recognise the difference when I’m side tracked or when I’m taking care of me, because let’s face it we take care of the people and things we value and love.  When I’m side tracked, the road gets a little bumpy, my self-care routines which contribute so greatly to my well-being slip further down my to do list, and I feel disconnected.  On the flip side, when I take the time to nourish myself I am a different person, I am the person I want to be- and that doesn’t mean that challenges don’t appear, but it does mean that they are effortless to overcome, and this is why self love is essential in living a fulfilling life.

So I encourage you to notice how you can love yourself just a little more, what acts of kindness can you take today to support your body, mind and soul to harmonise and celebrate your amazing life?

The following self-care practices are vital for me to stay grounded and feel connected, they contribute so much to me loving myself, and as a result loving my life.

1.       Routines keep me grounded.  My daily self-care routine consists of a spiritual practice of yoga, meditation & mantra, a walk in nature (unless the puddles are too deep) and an afternoon nap- All ESSENTIAL to my well-being.

2.       Energy is like currency- I get to choose where I shop.  I carefully choose how and where to spend my precious energy.  Setting boundaries and learning to say a guilt free ‘NO’ will be a precious gift to yourself.  But be warned it takes a little practice to move past the feelings of guilt.

3.       Manage and minimise stress.  As someone diagnosed with several chronic health conditions it is essential for me to minimise the amount of stress in my life, some days it doesn’t exist, but other days provide the potential for overwhelm.  When these busy days arise I simple ask the question ‘is this supporting my wellbeing?’, sometimes the answer is yes, in that I want to complete a project, other times it’s a hell no, so it gets cleared from my schedule.

4.       Build your bedtime routine.  Sleep is a vital time when your body restores and replenishes itself and is a key to prevent burnout.  Begin to build a supportive routine, and remember what you see, hear, experience and think about just before bed is what you will marinate in- so choose wisely. Use a guided relaxation (like this free sweet dreams deep relaxation), to help you drop into a space of stillness, practice gratitude, have a bath, connect with your breath, you will know what works best for you.

5.       Create a life worth living.  Start dreaming, and I suggest dreaming BIG.  Then start investing in your dreams, gather your supporters and start inching towards your dreams, knowing that every decision you make that connects you with your dream is a step closer.  Become aware of the feeling of blissful excitement as your dreams start to unfold, because I promise you when you nurture you, you will have FAR more to offer the world.

If your still lost and not sure where to start take a moment to reflect on how you love and care for the most important person in your life? How does it look, what do you do? Now place yourself in that place, and start doing it for YOU.

Yesterday’s blog from Danielle Hughes from Earth Wisdom Teachings explores 5 steps to support your self love  and Rebecca Mc Keon share waking up to your own magnificence tomorrow.

Restoring A Sense Of Balance.

It’s now the middle of January, and if you’re anything like me you’ll be glad to get back to a routine which supports your being on every level- physically, emotionally, energetically and mentally.  I am glad to see the back of the Christmas sweeties, as like a magpie, I am drawn to their twinkling wrappers and the sugar hit that follows.  But I have recognised that this year more than ever, that certain habits which I found myself falling into over the Christmas festivities did not serve me.

Over the years I have recognised how similar we all are, so I reckon if I’m feeling the aftermath of Christmas there is a high possibility you are too, so I've put together 5 suggestions to empower you to take care of your body and get it back to its optimum functioning level.

So now I ask the question I found myself pondering over Christams “What if you could do a few simple things which could help to restore your sense of connection and balance in your life, would you?”  I have included a few suggestions of simple changes which can have a BIG impact, and are part of my normal (outside Christmas) routine.

I would encourage you to carve out some time in your day, and by that I mean commit to 10, 20, 30 minutes of me time each day- making it non-negotiable, and then using this time in a way that truly benefits YOU.

I strongly believe it’s essential to look after our physical body first to enable us to actually be present to the changes we would like to make.  For example if our physical body is out of kilter it’s almost impossible to think clearly and find the motivation to implement lifelong changes.

So the following changes are recommendations to get you back on track after the festive season.

1.     Get Organised.  It’s very difficult to implement changes if we are flying by the seat of your pants, so identify what it is that you want to change and make a list of what / when you will do this.

2.     Get moving. Our lymphatic system does not have a pump to move the toxins in our body, so when you move so do the toxins.  Simple changes like getting off the bus a stop or two early, or going for a quick walk at lunch will make a big difference.  Don’t forget that exercise releases endorphins (the feel good hormone) so not only are you helping your physical body but your mental well-being.

3.     Hydration.  Drink 7 – 8 glasses of water each day, and by water I do actually mean water, but if this will be too challenging and you want to supplement some water with herbal teas (do check their caffeine content, as not all herbal teas are as healthy as you might think).  Staying properly hydrated will keep your body functioning at an optimum level, preventing constipation, sluggishness and helping to detox your system after Christmas.

4.     Get to bed earlier.  Allow time so you have the opportunity to sleep for 7 to 8 hours each night, Ayurveda believes that sleeping between 10 pm & 2am is the best time to enable your body to restore and replenish itself. Put a bedtime routine in place that enables you to wind down and fall asleep easily, such as switching off the tv earlier, taking a bath, stretching your body- you will know what works best for you.

5.     Become more aware of what you’re eating and aim for a more balanced diet- we all know the foods we ‘shouldn’t’ eat, yet an 80% / 20% approach makes our tasty treats and the focus of a balanced diet more achievable.  Whilst on your 80% try to eat local fresh food, rather than processed foods.

As with any changes there will always be a level of resistance, so it will take a commitment, but I have no doubt that once you tune into your body you will discover the wisdom which lies within, and restore yourself back to balance.

Once you become more aware of your thoughts, habits and patterns you will begin to become more experienced in the art of self-care.  And by that I mean taking care of yourself, the way you would a child or a friend, but now we are talking about YOU.

Take some time to honour yourself, your needs and your desires, because when we take care of ourselves we have so much more to offer the world.

The Mosaic Of My Life.

So to continue the story of India in a nutshell, the process got harder than I could have imagined, not so much this year on a physical level, but on a thought / feeling / psychological level, a whole new can was opening to me. I was privileged, wasn’t I?  To drop down into the unconscious layers of my being, a process which I had been working towards for many years, but what I found was far from what I desired.  Painful childhood memories, every imaginable fear and phobia arose which was then amplified with the addition of panic attacks, I was here to be healed, yet all I wanted was to get the hell outa here!

Welcoming the dawn and saying farewell to my final moon in India.

My years of self-care and spiritual practices thought me to trust, to trust when even the tiniest glimmer seemed to be extinguished, so I knew this was simply something I had to go through to bring me back to me, why I was not sure, but I knew and held tight to the trust.  I went to India to be healed and came back broken.

As a coach I often say to people find your why, because in your why lies your motivation, so throughout the four weeks of treatment I held steady on my why, talked about it, meditated on it, visualised it, so my why, and the amazing people in my life both in India and via skype kept me going.

I invested everything in my why, energetically, physically, emotionally, financially, and when I came home I found out that my why, hadn’t worked in the way I wanted.  In fact my TSH levels were now at a critical level, I could barely walk, I was in agonising pain, completely exhausted, couldn’t concentrate or focus, I was like a zombie.  So I took the decision to go back on my medication.

It was at this point that I downed tools on everything, I delegated like a queen, cancelled yoga classes, stopped coaching, and for the following six weeks I focussed on going inwards, doing everything inspiring, I mingled with high vibe conscious people, I listened carefully for guidance, yet there was no voice, so instead of abandoning me, I trusted.

I took myself on a spiritual retreat which I had booked before India was even on the cards, I was going because I had booked it, not because I really wanted to, I wanted to wallow I was broken- remember and a two hour train ride wasn’t high on my priorities list, I was still trying to process everything, did I really need to mix more into the pot?

But it was in these two and a half magical days that I met me, a part of me that I did not know even existed, a part of me that had been buried under conditioning, life and yet there I was all along.  I came home to who I was, not who I thought I was, I found peace with my illness, I was not cured but healed.

Satsang with Miranda Mac Phearson- a true privilege.

Within the following few days I ended a relationship, gave the keys back to my beautiful home and since mid-May I have been working on strengthening my connection with me, and the guidance is talking, my life is flowing in a way it has never done before.

I am getting to create the mosaic of my life, I can take all the shattered pieces of my life and create a life of beauty, meaning and purpose.
